Preventive maintenance saved the season: How we secured operations for a 1.5 MW motor

2026-05-20

For companies with seasonal production, operational reliability is more than a priority; it is a prerequisite for survival. Through continuous vibration measurements and rapid response, our team at Midtjydsk Kran & Elektro successfully identified and repaired a developing bearing fault on a 1.5 MW motor well ahead of the next peak season.

When machinery is running at full capacity, there is no room for unplanned downtime. For one of our clients, whose business is driven by intensive production periods, preventive maintenance is the key to secure operations. As part of our long-term partnership, we perform regular vibration measurements on their critical equipment – a method that proved its worth during the latest inspection.

Early detection prevented a breakdown

During the final measurement before a scheduled shutdown, our technicians detected a deviation. The analysis revealed a developing fault in the ball retainer of one of the bearings in a 1.5 MW motor. By catching the error at an early stage, we were able to act proactively instead of facing an emergency breakdown in the middle of a busy season.

Safe lifting and meticulous planning

In close dialogue with the client, a plan was quickly developed to handle the large motor safely. To ensure efficient and secure handling of the heavy equipment, the removal and subsequent reinstallation were carried out in close cooperation with a professional crane company. Our technicians were responsible for the entire process – from meticulous planning to technical execution on-site – ensuring the motor was transported to our workshop for inspection without unnecessary delays.

Comprehensive workshop service

Once at the workshop, the motor underwent a thorough overhaul to restore it to peak condition. The work included:

  • Bearing replacement: New components were installed to eliminate the identified fault.

  • Tolerance checks: We ensured that all fittings and measurements met the highest quality standards.

  • Auxiliary equipment service: Both external fans underwent a full service.

  • Electrical inspection: A total check of the motor's electrical status was performed.

Final assembly with precision laser alignment

After the service was completed, the motor was reinstalled at the client’s site. The task was finalized with the installation of the coupling and a precise laser alignment to guarantee that the motor and shaft run perfectly according to the manufacturer's specifications.

The result was machinery in top condition and a client who can face the next production season with peace of mind.
